Our selection of “Best Austin Family Film” will screen at the Community Village Cinema on August 1st

2025 marks the 20th Anniversary of the creation of the Austin Film Critics Association. Two decades where our organization has grown from just a handful of members to over 30. Our members represent not just Austin, but a diverse collection of outlets including: The Austin Chronicle, But Why Tho?, Cinapse, Daily Grindhouse, the Daily Texan, Double Toasted, Dread Central, Film School Rejects, Hyperreal Film Club, The Kingcast, KOOP 91.7 FM Radio, Movies.com, Nerdist, One Of Us, Paste, RogerEbert.com, ScreenCrush, True View Reviews, and The Wrap.

Each year, our collective votes on our annual awards, with a unique category being “Best Austin Film“, honoring the standout film of the year from a filmmaker based in Austin. To open our celebrations of our 20th year, and expand our representation of the Austin community we look to reflect, the AFCA has selected Richard Linklater’s School of Rock as our “Best Austin Family Film” to build off our awards tradition.

We’re thriller to partner with the fine folk over at the Community First! Village for this special screening with their Community Cinema program providing a wonderful outdoor space to bring friends and family, and rock out.

Screening: August 1st, 8pm.

Location: 9301 Hog Eye Road Austin, TX 78724

Tickets are FREE for this event!

The screening will begin at full dark and/or ~an hour after event start time. Popcorn, candy, and drinks will be available for purchase (cards only, cash not accepted). We encourage you to support the concessions team rather than bringing outside food and drinks. Concessions sales directly support the formerly homeless neighbors earning a dignified income to work the event! More details on the event and location can be found here. We’ll release information on other celebrations to mark the AFCA’s 20th year soon!
