Our roster expands with six new additions
AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Film Critics Association is pleased to welcome six new members to our roster in 2026. A committee of current members was convened to consider candidates, approving these critics via a majority vote.
We warmly welcome each of them to the group!
Peyton Buetow: An Austin native with a deep passion for film and a relentless curiosity for all genres. He can be found reviewing, analyzing, and discussing movies on his social media outlet, Peyton Pictures, and his podcast, The Apple Box Chronicles.
Stephen Davis: Stephen has always loved film. He survived his first R-rated film, Alive, at the ripe old age of eight, spent months processing the mere fact that Julia Roberts died at the end of Steel Magnolias, and still finds himself defending the likes of Sorority Row and From Justin to Kelly. They aren’t good. But they were a moment.
Mike J McAllister: Born and raised in western Pennsylvania and obsessed with movies from a very young age, Mike J. McAllister has been a part of the OneOfUs.Net team since 2016 as a film critic and video editor. He celebrates everything from big blockbusters to cult classics to indie underdogs, bringing a vast knowledge of pop culture and his sense of humor to his work. In addition to that, he is an award-winning independent filmmaker and animator. He is a graduate of La Roche College in Pittsburgh.
Mark Redmond: A Louisiana native, Mark “Boomer” Redmond holds a BFA in Creative Writing from Louisiana State University and an MA in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of New Orleans. He became an Austin resident in 2015, the same year he began writing for New Orleans-based film site Swampflix; as of 2020, he is also co-host of the Swampflix Lagniappe podcast. He was the recipient of the 2012 Samuel Mockbee Award for Non-Fiction, formerly contributed to the Entertainment section of DIG magazine, had his poetry featured in the inaugural issue of Smoking Glue Gun, and is a recurring contributor to Austin Public Access’s God Mourning America.
Eric Samaniego: Born in Arlington, Texas, and has called Austin home since 2006. He has been an active film critic for the past decade, joining the OneofUs.net podcast network in 2020. Since then, he has appeared on and hosted reviews across several of the network’s film and media programs, including Highly Suspect Reviews and Screener Squad. He co-hosts Trash in the Can with longtime friend Wright Sulek, a show celebrating the trashiest, campiest, and most delightfully outrageous movies. He also hosts Heart/Felt, a podcast dedicated to Jim Henson and The Muppets, and Make a Noise, a series celebrating Mel Brooks’ centennial. Outside of film criticism, Eric has written short films, performed stand-up comedy, and provided voice-over work for animation.
Greg Trosclair: A lifelong movie fan, comic book collector, and avid writer. As a contributor to Cinema Scholars, he has enjoyed covering SXSW Film & TV, Fantastic Fest, and screenings and film events throughout Austin. Whether writing about the latest release or revisiting a longtime favorite, Greg brings a lifelong love of movies, comics, and storytelling to his work.
