FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

As part of the organization’s annual voting, the Austin Film Critics Association awards titles with local ties — works made in Austin and/or directed by a filmmaker living in town during their film’s production. This award is distinct to our group of critics, recognizing the talent of Austin filmmakers as we celebrate the best films of the year.

The winner of the 2019 Austin Film award will be announced January 6, 2020, with the rest of the AFCA awardwinners.

In alphabetical order, the five nominees for 2019 are:

  • Frances Ferguson (dir. Bob Byington)
  • A Hidden Life (dir. Terrence Malick)
  • The River and the Wall (dir. Ben Masters)
  • Running with Beto (dir. David Modigliani)
  • Where’d You Go, Bernadette (dir. Richard Linklater)

The current plan is for the winning film to be shown in a special screening at AFS Cinema on January 22, 2020 — thanks to Austin Film Society for hosting.
